Talking about mechanical components of our car always involves certain complications, and it is that many times names of auto parts with which we are not familiar come up. In this article, in addition to explaining what the car’s throttle body is, we will tell you what its most common failures are, as well as its role in the engine’s operation, and the symptoms that reveal that something is wrong with it.
1. What is the throttle body?
The throttle body of your car, if it were a mammal, would be the lung. This device is responsible for managing the entry of air into the intake manifold. The throttle body uses a regulating mechanism or valve, commonly known as a butterfly, which opens and closes to a greater or lesser extent as we press the accelerator pedal.
The throttle body fulfills the mission of delivering the precise amount of air for the correct engine combustion process. The amount of air supplied by the throttle body to the intake manifold is the one that mixes with the gasoline to subsequently be ignited by the electric arc generated by each spark plug.

2. Throttle Body Symptoms and Faults
Throttle body faults are easy to diagnose and are generally inexpensive to repair. Most of them have to do with dirt build-up in the throttle area or IAC valve failure .
One of the most common symptoms of a throttle body failure is delayed accelerator pedal action. If you have noticed that you press the accelerator and there is a delay of one or two seconds in the response, and also when you release it there is also a delay, there could be a accumulation of dirt in the throttle valve, which causes its mobility to be reduced. be reduced, and should be cleaned.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF A DIRTY THROTTLE BODY?
HOW DO YOU CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY WHEN IT IS REMOVED FROM THE CAR?
Disassembling this component allows it to be cleaned as thoroughly as possible. However, it will take longer to do so.
- From the list above, repeat steps 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. Note that you may need more tools as you will have to disassemble the entire assembly. RESETTING A THROTTLE WITH MECHANICAL CONTROL

- Stop the engine for about 10 seconds. Start it again.

RESETTING AN ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED THROTTLE
The reset process may vary between different vehicles. Therefore, before starting the procedure, you should refer to the vehicle manual for the exact sequence of steps. The general procedure is as follows:
- Study the procedure and try to remember it. You’ll need to act quickly, so you won’t have time to go over the details.
- Start the engine. Wait for it to warm up to operating temperature.
- Stop it for 10 seconds.
- Switch on the ignition for 3 seconds.
- Step on the accelerator pedal quickly 5 times. Each press should take one second.
- Depress the accelerator pedal fully for 7 seconds. Hold it down until the “Check Engine” light comes on and hold it for 3 more seconds.
- Release the accelerator pedal and start the engine.
HOW TO PREVENT THE THROTTLE BODY FROM GETTING DIRTY?
