Vehicle Check: Things You Didn’t Know

Posted on November 1, 2022November 21, 2022 by hashim pes

Vehicle verification is one of the government activities that seeks to care for and improve the environment.

When we talk about vehicle verification , there are always many doubts around the subject. However, information is key to understanding everything about this program. At Proautoenthusiast we will tell you everything you need to know about vehicle verification in one place.

1. What is vehicle verification

Vehicle verification is a program that seeks to control the circulation of cars, making the cars that pollute the most circulate fewer days a week, and that cars with lower levels of polluting emissions have fewer mobility restrictions.

2. What is the vehicle verification for?

Vehicle verification serves to classify cars according to their level of polluting emissions, so that a hologram with a higher number is given to the cars that pollute the most. The vehicle verification also applies to mass transit or cargo transportation vehicles.

3. What does vehicle verification consist of?

Vehicle verification consists of performing a pollutant emissions test , and this test can be in static or dynamic mode. Dynamic emissions tests are based on putting the car to work on a dynamometer where the driven wheels can rotate freely, simulating the operation of the car on the highway or on the streets, and thus measuring the polluting emissions that emanate from the exhaust system.

The static test, on the other hand, bases its operation on checking the correct operation and readings of the car’s on-board diagnostic system (OBDII), and in this way an approving opinion is issued if the operation is correct or disapproving if the operation is not proper. Currently this is the most used method.

4. States that do not verify

Currently, vehicle verification is not mandatory in the following states: Baja California Sur, Campeche, Colima, Chiapas, Durango, Guerrero, Nayarit, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas.

5. Vehicle pollution

One of the points that the vehicular verification seeks to attack is vehicular contamination . In this sense, it is worth mentioning that, for example, a new vehicle is entitled to a 00 hologram, and this hologram is representative of a car that pollutes very little due to the cleanliness of its engine, and the new state of the catalytic converter. A hologram 2 vehicle, on the other hand, is quite polluting for the environment because its engine has traces of carbon, and its catalytic converter may no longer work as it should.

The vehicle verification process is quite simple: the first step is to make an appointment with a verification center authorized by the states that make up the vehicle verification program among their guidelines for environmental protection. The next step is to go to the appointment with the required documents (typically the proof of the previous verification and the automobile registration card). Subsequently, you must pay for the requested hologram and submit the car to a static or dynamic test, as the case may be. Once the test is completed, the approval certificate, the hologram and the verification receipt will be obtained, or failing that, the rejection certificate and the corresponding opinion indicating why it was not approved.

6. Vehicle verification schedule

The vehicle verification schedule is intended to assess the limits of polluting emissions from motor vehicles, in order to reduce polluting emissions into the atmosphere. The vehicle verification must be carried out according to the last digit of the vehicle’s license plate, the type of certificate and the hologram. Vehicles that carry a license plate made up of two or more numerical series or that contain numerical series and letters, must carry out the vehicle verification according to the last numerical digit of the license plate. The Verification Certificate issued will correspond to the semester in which the test is taken.

7. Vehicle Verification Center

To carry out the vehicle verification, you must go to the vehicle verification centers , so you must pay attention to some of the following points. Only some vehicle verification centers have the equipment to evaluate the emissions generated by diesel vehicles, so you should check the link on the official page for information on the address and type of vehicles that each Verificenter can serve.

The verification centers provide service from Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., except on non-working days.

Vehicle verification centers may refrain from providing the verification service to vehicles whose circulation is restricted by the Hoy No Circula program.

8. Vehicle Verification Program

The purpose of the vehicle verification program is to establish the schedule and guidelines according to which all internal combustion engine vehicles that use gasoline, diesel or natural gas, for private use and public service, registered, posted, located or authorized to circulate through the corresponding authorities of each State, must be verified. In addition, the vehicle verification program also contributes to improving the entity’s air quality. The vehicle verification of each State is a requirement that you should not ignore if you live in Mexico, know everything you need to know about the procedure.

9. Requirements for vehicle verification

To help you better understand the requirements for vehicle verification , at Automéxico we have gathered the basic requirements established by the State that you need to know when carrying out the vehicle verification.

For users with a new vehicle, to carry out the vehicle verification , they must present the following documentation at the Verification Center:

  • Copy of the invoice or invoice letter, which must be issued within 180 calendar days after the date of issue of the invoice, for vehicles that wish to obtain the “00” certificate and hologram.

  • Original of the current circulation card or, failing that, circulation card 2013 or later.

  • Original of the registration registration document, which must be issued within 180 calendar days after the date of issue.

For users who present a vehicle with previous verification, they must present the following documentation at the vehicle verification center:

  • Original of the current circulation card or, failing that, circulation card 2013 or later.

  • Original of the verification certificate for the first semester of fiscal year 2021, in case you have carried out the verification and it is not available, you must process a Certificate of Issuance of the Verification Certificate before the Citizen Attention Modules of the Secretariat or a replacement through the systems or means determined by the Secretariat.

  • If applicable, a copy of the official payment receipt or the corresponding fine and/or Vehicle Verification Authorization issued by the Secretariat.

  • In case of registering plates in the state vehicle registry for the first time, present a copy of the plate registration certificate.
  • In case of license plate change, submit a copy of the license plate registration and registration certificate and the latest verification certificate.
  • Rejection certificate.

10. Provisional certificate of vehicle verification

Due to the health emergency due to coronavirus and in order to avoid contagion in the capital of the country as well as to make verification of the State of Mexico more convenient for residents . The Ministry of the Environment enabled an internet site where motorists can obtain the Provisional Certificate of vehicle verification.

The owners of a motor vehicle will be able to obtain the provisional  vehicle verification certificate to circulate if they do not have a current vehicle verification , because they will not be able to regularize it until service is resumed in the area.

It is important to point out that the vehicle verification centers will continue to provide service from Monday to Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will be able to verify vehicles normally when the epidemic situation is well controlled.

With all of the above information, we hope this article will help you make vehicle verification more convenient.
